this week i am fine tuning the details of my project to try to work with what the materials have presented, and figure out what i need to leave behind from my initial plans. the idea of the heat lamp didn't work when i tried it because the light was far too bright and the heat was undetectable. i decided to play with materials i had, starting with wool and trying to make a glowing cloud. the cloud was nice aesthectically but didn't really add any conceptual value to the project. I then tried playing with light in a glass orb. i started with coloured lightbulbs, then tried playing a random video off of my phone and placing it inside. the orb blended the colours of the video into beautiful earthy tones which would subtle change in ways that made me think of images of the planets. i then made a video of a white block slowly moving across black space to try to create an expression of the phases of the moon, where a white light would move from one side of the orb to the other. the colours blended together a bit too much to achieve this effect, so i regrouped and thought about what my central object was initially supposed to represent. i wanted the object in the centre to represent the sun and to place viewers in a moment of stargazing/planetary worship. i then made a video of images of all of the planets sliding across a black screen one by one, and when i placed this inside the orb i witnessed an optical moment which felt perfect for this project. the glowing orb in pure darkness created a confusing moment for the eyes, which worked with my intention to destabilize the viewers understanding of the space. when the orb lit up completely with bright oranges, blues, and whites, it felt like apprehending a full moon or watching a bright sunset.

with this material research, i was thinking of yoko ono's Grapefruit and listening to yoko ono records. i am creating spiritually charged conceptual art that attempts to promote feelings of peace and earth/sky worship, which brings me to consider yoko ono's practice.
found this beautiful version of i love you earth featuring Anohni :.)
