this one never actually became a video but here are some stills. after filming these i realized exactly what i wanted to say with this project, and two days later i realized that this project can't happen this semester. i'm seeing a lot of silver lining in this situation because i have more time to be tender and nurture this project into something beautiful and effective rather than it being an antagonist in my life. anyways, i realized that my main influences here are process art and surrealism. i would sculpt plasticine objects with the body and personhood in mind, then animate them and follow the plasticine's lead to create imagery i hadn't imagined. i was specifically thinking about automatism in surrealism and process art because the shapes the plasticine took were informing my actions but my subconscious connotations were creating meaning in random shapes formed in the clay. i am really interested in the way plasticine can become a window or mirror into the subconscious like a Rorschach test or free association exercise. these videos were creating a narrative where intersections between all earthly matter are underscored through the malleable plasticine ebbing and flowing through amorphous, natural, constructed, and human forms. i wanted to create an immersive installation with these videos where viewers could relate to the videos and assign subjective meaning, but i will revisit this next semester.
